November Update from Matt

Hello friends,

I am so thankful for so many things. I know it is easy to start saying how thankful we are because it is that time of season and then be so very forgetful of how blessed we are as soon as the dust settles from the holiday season, but I truly am thankful for so many things and pray I never lose sight of all the grace and blessing God has poured out on us.

We have a sign in our house that a friend gave to us that says "Look at what love the Father has lavished on us", it is a constant reminder that we are so loved and nothing can ever separate us from that love. I don't know at what point in the Christian faith that the message of the gospel and the mission of the church strayed away from the fact that God loves us so immensely that he gave His son Jesus to die for us. The Bible says that when we lift Him up He will draw all people to Himself. This should be the heart cry of every missionary, church and believer that we would live lives in such a way that lifts the Name of Jesus up and allow Him to draw people to Himself. the more I grow in my walk with the Lord the more I realize that it is all about Jesus and that I am usually not doing God or anyone else any favors by straying away from that.

A few weeks ago we left SD and headed to GA for a dear friends wedding that our whole family had part in and was able to see our families while we were there. Along the way we stopped in Memphis and had stayed with wonderful friends and I was able to have some dental work done that I have been in need of for a little while. I am grateful for dentists and doctors that use their skill in ways that glorify God in other countries and in the US. I am back in SD while Amanda and the kids are still in GA until Christmas. I will fly back for Christmas and then head to Chicago for a youth conference and then we will head home. Pray for grace while traveling and for the youth conference I will be speaking at, I am super excited about the opportunities God has opened up for us.

In just a few weeks we will have our first weekend getaway for the teens. It will be December 6th - 8th. I will be able to take 30 local teens and have a weekend at the camp where they will come in on Friday evening and then go home on Sunday morning. It will be a fun time and also a growing time. We want the kids to be able to come at no cost to them so that money is not a concern or reason to why they would not be able to come. The theme will be "Great escape to nowhere" - how God restores us right where we are. It will cost roughly $35 - $40 per person to do all the things that we would like to do with them over the weekend. if you would like to sponsor a teen feel free to let me know or you can donate to YES (address at bottom) put teen camp or Hadden family in memo.

One thing I have been super encouraged by is seeing more of the teens and the kids coming to church on Sundays. It is such a blessing to be able to see the kids outside of school and them run up to give you a hug, or even when i got back to work the other day they were in the halls excited to see me and I excited to see them. It has been great over the last few months being able to build relationships with a lot more of the kids.

I am excited for the holiday season for all the ways that God can use us to be a blessing to so many families here. Last Saturday Rob and I helped pack over 200 boxes with all the fixings for a thanksgiving dinner for 10 people. I also have a list of families that need firewood that we have been working on getting them set up for a little while to meet those needs. God has promised to provide all of our needs according to His riches and I choose to believe that because I know of His faithfulness. He never goes back on a promise, I am so grateful for a great God who proves Himself over and over again.

I pray the Lord keeps you all safe through this season and that your hearts are truly filled with gratefulness and that you go about glowing with the presence of the Almighty resting on your lives.

Amanda's Update :)

Yes yes...this isn't old news. I haven't updated in a while! Summer Camp at Chanku Waste Youth Ranch starts up and just about nothing else gets done.  We had a fantastic summer, and had some smaller numbers some weeks but we were able to see more one on one discipleship which was so powerful. He had a few come to know Jesus, and we planted seeds every day. During the summer, the kids get to hear the gospel everyday. And some weeks we slow down on the long bible studies, because the kids have heard, and more times then not, our actions, our love, our life living, shows them more of Jesus then what we speak.

This summer was also our second year as Camp Directors with TEAMeffort Missions out of Jacksonville, FL.  It's a mission organization that just celebrated  20 years of ministry this year! They organize youth construction mission trips. God has used this ministry so much for us personally with new relationships and friends, and also with getting so far in our construction aspect of the Kids Camp. A quick overview of what we accomplished with their help this summer: we built a storage garage behind the main garage, built an archery shed, enclosed the camp side of the garage for camp storage with shelving, accomplished SO much in the Motorcycle Ministry side of the garage, built a stage in the Chapel area and sound booth, helped finish drywall, painted the first coat of paint, painted the trim, built a nice food pantry in the green building beside the church, along with a few other small things! All of that Matt and a few other TE staff leaders organized while camp was going on.  We would not be where we are in the building without the servents of TEAMeffort Missions. We are so blessed by their ministry and all the groups that came from all over the country to serve our people. 

On a personal note, Leah this year was not stop at camp. Last year, it was a good day if she stayed to til lunch time. Which this year, has really been much more of a mild summer, heat wise.  We definiatly had hot days but nothing like last summer. At the end of the day, it was a challenge to get her to come back inside to rest.  Jacob was in his element!! He thrives in every area.  This year, we had a lot of chances to teach him examples of leadership.  Sometimes, our little ones get separated out because they are missionary kids, but the reality is that they are in the heart of ministry as well.  They go to camp everyday throughout the summer, and they get tired and overwhelmed just like us.  Matt and I were so proud to see our kids setting examples, and leading while still being kids. Jacob and Leah both start school on the 9th.  Jacob is in first grade, and Leah will start pre-k.  Sharing with a friend of mine, I stated that this school year is all about GRACE!! Adding a sweet little baby, traveling and speaking, I do not have unrealistic expectations of how it will go.  We will do what we can, and lean on Jesus!! haha! 

We are reaching 34 weeks on Sunday with our pregnancy.  It seems like it has flown by, but at the same time...now it seems time is slowing down for sure!  It is amazing how God designed pregnancy and allows us to bond with Noah even in the womb.  God is creating a love between us and him like no other. We get excited thinking about the changes, and the new things He will bring into our lives, and also enjoy thinking about how he will so much enrich our lives even more.  A few weeks after Leah was born, God gave me a vision of Noah.  I knew we would have one more son one day.  I know that God knows the beginning and the end, and everything in between, but it is so amazing to catch a little glimpse of that and be reminded that he holds every piece of our lives and weaving even the smallest details together. As with Jacob and Leah, I can't wait to see what God has in store for Noah and how he will impact the Kingdom.  I pray that our kids are always eternally minded. 

Matt has made some changes in his health over the summer.  He has decided to be intentional about his health and over the summer lost about 40 pounds total. We have been so proud of him! It's so neat to hear Jacob choose salad over something else with the reasoning of being more healthy like daddy.  "Things are caught by kids, not taught." Matt is leading by example and it has been a joy to see.  I am so thankful for Matt, we are celebrating our 8th anniversary on Aug 20th, and reflecting on where we have come from is overwhelming.  God has been so gracious in our marriage. I have seen so much growth in Matt over that last few years, and seeing him thrive in this ministry it is so evident he was designed, created, and called for this. God gives us the grace to grow in our marriage everyday and I am totally excited for the rest of our lives! Matt enriches our life so much and I am more proud to be his everyday. 

This week, which is why our blog is being updated, we are enjoying a vacation with our family in Branson, MO. My sister came up from Texas, and my mom and dad, brother and his new bride came up from Georgia.  Leah and I are heading down to Alabama for our cousins wedding then heading back up to South Dakota. After that we welcome Matt's family and some dear friends of ours to help build our room addition and get ready for Noah's arrival. Then we just get to rest, and be together as we wait for baby.

God has been providing in every aspect of our ministry.  He has been so faithful!  We don't even have time to question or grow concerned with how we will do it, He just does it! It has been so awesome to see that. We have no doubt he will continue to grow our faith as He follows through with His promises!

Most importantly, Thank you all for your prayers! I wish we could thank you all individually.  Your financial support has been a huge aspect of us being here, and we are so grateful!  It takes the body of Christ to carry out ministry, and we could not do it without the obedience and support of the body of believers.  Thank you over and over!

In the coming weeks, we will have a website that will tie all our social media, contacts, updates, ect in one place and we will let you know that as well.  We love you all and are SO thankful for each of you in our lives!

December Update

Hello Everyone,

As always I hope this finds you all well.

Seasons come and go. With each season comes change, past memories, the making of new memories as well as new feelings, some good and some bad.

Many of times I refer to what I am doing at that time as a season in my life. I would say that this time for Amanda and I is a season we are in. As the months and maybe years go by God will have us doing something different and we will be in a different season. With each one of those seasons brings the same as seasons of weather, (Change, memories, feelings) sometimes it is easier times than others but through any and every season we are in, God our Father says that His grace is enough. I find much comfort in knowing that. This season for us is easy and yet somehow hard. It is easy trusting that God will provide your needs, he has proven it over again many times, yet it is really hard because he does not do it how I want Him to or even in my timing. I believe many of you can probably relate to that.

I am learning to embrace the season that I find myself in and to be grateful in it.

As we have come into this new Christmas season, we as a family have so much to be thankful for. As I have been able to travel some in the last few months, I have seen how even in controversy over economics or politics that we live in a great country with a lot of wonderful people. I am proud to be an American and I hope and pray that we as a people would rise to the occasion that is set before us to demonstrate the goodness and love of God.

We have had a great time the last month, we were in OH a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time with our family there and were able to share some specific needs with them as they are planning a trip to Pine ridge next summer.

Last sunday and the next few weeks we will be around the newnan area in a few different churches locally.

Still planning our trip south to the gulf coast in Jan.

We will be having another benefit concert the last friday in January, which is the 25th. We are planning an amazing night filled with a great night of worship and some testimony from my Native brother Mike Brennon and from Amanda and I sharring about our time there last summer as well as casting our vision for the years to come that God has us there. I would love to encourage you to bring your church and families to this night. I believe it will light a fire in your heart for Native American people.

The following Monday (the 28th) two close friends and I will embark on a journey to the northwest territory to encourage a handful of pastors there and to minister some aid to the Dene people. Please pray for finances and cold weather gear for this trip, if you have some really cold weather gear such as coats and boots, we are in need of these things and would like to borrow some if possible.

In closing I want to encourage you this season of your life to love the Lord your God with all of your heart and embrace the relationship you have with Him. If you dont have a relationship with Him, there is no better season than the one you are in right now to start one.

As always, I so appreciate you holding out for our posts and updates. We've been home about a month now and we are adjusting to everything well.  Who would have thought it would be an adjustment to being home, coming back to where you are so comfortable, but it has. We have missed our family and friends in South Dakota and the urgency of being back has only grown stronger. Some of you are asking what we are up to while we are home.  Our schedule is only getting more busy, thankfully. While we are home, we have events and churches scheduled for us to come and share about our ministry in Pine Ridge.  Our main job has been to share our hearts and trust the Lord for our financial needs.

This is a very uncomfortable place for us to be, to be honest.  It's hard raising funds in this economy but we have a God that has far more than we could ever need. We do have a goal that we are trying to reach.  It's a goal that is above what we require monthly, and the reason for that is one month someone may not be able to meet their commitment.  We raise a certain percentage expecting to get 60% of it. While also being completely dependent on the Lord. Being a full time missionary is like being a full time Pastor. We dont have a 9-5 job, we are on the clock, creating ministry opportunities, partnering with the schools and education departments, community service, Co Pastoring, and Co Directing the Chanku Waste Youth Ranch during the summer. As our full time job we are ministering to the Native Americans and showing the gospel through our lives.  This takes money to allow us the task of ministering and reaching the Natives full time. It's definatly a strange place to be, and it's such a testiment to Gods provision. Regardless if we have what we need, we are heading back early March to set out to do what God has called us to do.  If we need to get jobs we will do what it takes to complete the task set before us.  Please be in prayer for us.  We will be traveling the weeks after thanksgiving and Christmas and we will be gone all of Jan and Feb.

Newsletter Update

God is good!

Hello Friend.

I wanted to update you all on how the Lord has blessed us this past month and also make you aware of some needs that are in front of us.
I was able to drive back to our home in SD and take a trailer load with me full of coats, blankets and the rest of our furniture. The house is set up and ready for us to be there living in it. I am so grateful to many of our friends who have been gracious in giving us their time and other resources for us to be able to have the house ready for us.
We were able to bring together several coats and blankets that have been given out in the last week or so and the timing is great considering they already are starting to have snow on the ground.
The gas for the trip up there was a large exspense and I am grateful to report that half of it has been taken care of but there is still a chunk that is needed to cover the rest. It was around $1600 total to get moved in up there.- I guess that is not bad for a move of 1500 miles.
We were able to get all of the siding on the building that we have been working on for the kids camp as well as all of the rough hvac in. We are almost ready to insulate and Sheetrock. I am excited to see the end result and how it will be used for the glory of God and a testament to His love.
One of the goals we have for the spring is to be able to teach some music lessons after school in the church and with that, one of our needs is instruments that we could use. Such as guitars and recorders, hand drums, whatever we have we will use. If you have any instruments lying around and would like to donate them to this need please feel free to let me know.
We are looking forward to the months ahead of us in seeing some of you in person and being able to fellowship with you all. We are still in need if monthly support whether that be through a commitment from some of you or a job for me there on the reservation. Please pray with us that our faith would not grow weary. God is faithful.
I am also looking for work to do through the next few months as this will help us while we are continuing raising support for next year while we are home.
We will be in Columbus OH in Nov and in Chicago in Dec still with the plan to be in MS and along the gulf in Jan. And then on to Nashville.
I am taking a trip with a good friend of mine to help do some work among the Dene people in the Northwest Territory in February to encourage the people there and offer supplies. After that we will make our way back to SD stopping in a few cities along the way.

I have decided that it is not easy fully trusting the Lord, it is easy to say I trust the Lord, but my life does not show it. It seemed that Paul stresses in his letters to the church that he did not want to be a burden to them, I hope you know that my heart is the same and I don't ever want to be burden on any of you but rather want to keep you informed of our journey and the needs that are in front of us and to give opportunity for you to have a part in what God is doing in Pine Ridge. We are so richly blessed and honored to be a part of something so much bigger than we can see.

Email update...living life on a mission!

Hello Everyone,

I have been asked by several people about what life is like here on the reservation, it is hard to answer until we were living here for a little while, I feel I can answer that a little better after being here almost 4 months. This email is to share with you some of our experiences here over the summer. Some of it is not very pretty but that is why God has us here I believe.

When we first set out to come here we didn't know where we were going to live. Our original place to stay was going to be in a barn loft that I was going to add some water to make a little apartment out of. That fell through in the last few weeks before we came and God opened another place for us to stay, which was the parsonage beside the church. I am so grateful for this, we could not have asked for a more practical place to stay. It is spacious and in really great shape. it needed a lot of cleaning up and some minor work with holes in the walls and such, but I just so happen to be gifted in that area as well as there was a wonderful church around 2 hrs north of here that wanted to be a blessing to us and came one Saturday and helped me paint and all before Amanda got here back in may, and such a great blessing they were.

It is directly across the street from the busiest gas station on the entire Reservation at an intersection called Sharps Corner. Sharps Corner is considered the most central place here not so much because of where it sits geographically but because of the convenience to get to pretty much anywhere here.

The back door had a sticker on it that says "We do not give out gas money" That should have bee a hint as to how many people we would encounter on a daily basis that come by our house asking for anything you could possibly imagine. Because we are at the parsonage we have people stop that need to get in the pantry for food and baby supplies. Baby supplies, such as diapers, wipes and formula go faster than anything else. We have a lot of teenage moms that come by needing help. We are blessed by people that put boxes and such together to help keep this pantry stocked. We have been working on a clothes closet that has plenty of room to be able to stock clothes and coats for winter and such, it has already been put to use but is still a working progress.

The weather has been a crazy thing to experience here. It can be totally sunny and over 100 degrees outside and within a few hrs be seriously cold and hailing. The wind is always blowing, 60 mph winds are nothing here. we have experienced several days of winds around 80 100mph. I told them, where I'm from we call that a hurricane! It is a constant job cleaning trash and such that the winds blow all over the place. We keep a ratchet strap on the trash can to keep it at a minimum.

Rapid City is the closest city to us. It has around 80,000 people and has everything you could need. It is home to the busiest wal-mart in the world is what  am told at least, and I totally believe it, there has never been a slow time to go to that store. it is because it is the only one for so many miles that people use that one from so far out. Rapid City for us is about 80 miles away,so we are learning to make good use of our trips to town. I am becoming a much better list maker!

The people here are very passive and easy to get along with. Most of them have light hearts and cut up all the time. When you are talking to them about something might not agree with at all, they will just shake their head and smile and probably agree with you just to not have any argument at all. It gets aggravating sometimes when you are trying to teach them because you don't know if they are getting it or just shaking their head for fun, so I am learning to ask them a lot of questions.

I believe we have been well received here by most. There are some that just look away from you and you can tell some bitterness and hate with "white people", but even then they just wont talk to you or even look at you I have noticed, never any words or other actions to show that.

Gang activity is pretty much in every community here, there is graffiti on pretty much every house and playground in every one of the government housing communities. 

Drugs and alcohol are a huge detriment to this society. There have been several cases I have gone out in the morning and heard from some of our neighbors about all the things that have transpired the night before and I didn't hear or see anything. That confirms for me once again that God has a hedge of protection over our house and family. some of the things I have heard that have happened even in the last few months that we have been here are too grotesque to share in this email and are very upsetting, but just know that it is not pretty things.

Last Saturday morning I had gone to a friends house in a community down the road that they have nicknamed "mini Baghdad" (I think that is a little stretched but it still gives you the idea) as I was coming in, there were people out standing in the streets and something seemed a little out of the norm. I had asked my friend what was going on and he had told me that a 24yr old a few houses down had hung himself that morning. I don't know if any of you have looked at or remember us sharing some of the statistics here before we came, but the suicide rate is insane here. This was the most recent but I have heard of so many more in the last weeks and all are of young people. In Rapid City at the Lakota housing there a few weeks ago they found a 12 yr old that had killed himself and while the coroner was still there they had gone back in the house and the boys 8yr old brother had done the same. Even as I write this it grieves my heart sharing this with you, but I do feel the need to let you know of the condition that is here. People ask more than anything else "what do you think is the main #1 problem here, is it the drugs, gangs, alcohol?" I have heard Pastor Mike say - You cant one dimensionalize a problem this big, there isn't just one thing, all of these problems are symptoms of a much deeper problem I believe.

We have had a little boy about Jacob's age named Daryl come and hang out at our house for a little while and he would eat lunch with us after church, I have never met his parents or anything and he had kind of disappeared, when I had asked around about him I was told the other day that his mom had abandoned him and his 2 other siblings and they had put them in separate foster homes because nobody wanted them all together. I hear of this quite often, even with the teens they are always being moved around to different relatives to stay with.

All of this to say, we know without a doubt of why God has us here. These are a people that God loves and He likes them. He chose a very similar culture to call His own, so much of the culture here is so close to Hebrew culture, and I don't believe they are far off from the truth from what they believe, but you can have almost the whole Gospel without Christ and you would have nothing. Pray for the ministry here. I am sad to be leaving next month but it is something that we have to do. I feel that we are going to have to almost start over building relationships here when we get back in March.

Pray for our family, for continued protection. I have had to explain so many things to Jacob that he has heard and seen and doesn't fully understand, I pray that God guards his little heart from things that he shouldn't be exposed to, as well as Leah. We are getting ready to make our journey home leaving here September 14th heading to Chicago for that Sunday the 16th. from there hopefully going to Columbus Ohio, Louisville KY, Radcliff KY, Nashville TN, Huntsville AL and then home. if you are in any of these areas please give us a shout we would love to come see you. God's people have been so gracious in opening their homes to us and we are excited about making new friends along the way.

Resting in Him.

Hey everyone!

Wow, the last week of camp was last week and it was definatly bitter/sweet!  We have really started solid relationships with the kids that attend, and we are going to miss them. Some of them we will see at church but most we won't.  So the end of summer camp is a bit sad for everyone. On tuesday we got to pick up Rebecca and Daniel, two of Matt's siblings, from the airport. They will be staying with us for a few weeks right up to the time that we head home.  For them it is probably going slow, we aren't used to having much free time, so we have enjoyed the last few days of rest and a little boredom!! haha! But all is needed. 

Tomorrow we get to enjoy a full day with some of the youth. We are taking them to a local lake and spending the day there, then coming back for a girls lockin. MAN!! Am I going to be worn out! haha!!  We are excited to get to spend this time with them. As I've shared with some of you, we are just now taking our friendships with the youth to new levels.  We hope when we return in March that we wont have to start from scratch.  We pray that we can still keep up with everyone and still be positive relationships for them. We will have pictures to post of all our fun this weekend!!

Soon, we will be packing up and preparing the house for the winter and the time that we are gone.  We are thrilled to be able to visit with alot of the wonderful people that we have come in contact over the last summer. We will be in Chicago, IL, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, then GEORGIA!  In the fall we are planning trips to North/South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Mississippi, Lousiana, Texas, and that's not including our trip back to South Dakota and the northern states we will hit.  This is going to be crazy!!!  All of this to share the amazing ministry happening here in Pine Ridge. God has truly blessed us with like-minded ministries and we are truly pumped about getting to spend more time with them.

A few weeks ago, we were pleased to find a great deal on a family vehicle.  We dont have a vehicle back home, only Matt's truck.  With our sweet growing children, it was going to be a tight 3 week long trip home on a bench seat, and we had a peace about moving forward with the purchase.  With that, we have 2 vehicles to get home, and two gas tanks to fill.  We aren't pulling the trailer home, because we are leaving alot of our stuff here, but we are planning on about $600-$700 for fuel, per vehicle. Please rejoice with us that our financial needs will continue to be met.  I say rejoice because this need is already before the Lord! And we trust that He is faithful.  We have learned not to worry or fret. If we are faithful, God is ALWAYS faithful!

Aug Update!!!

Hello Everyone,I hope this letter finds you all well.

I want to thank everyone of you for supporting us through prayer or finances or just words or letters of encouragement. We could not be here in Pineridge if it were not for all of you guys.
This summer has flown by, it is hard to believe that we have been here for 3 months already. We have been so blessed with many opportunities to stay busy. We have been working with a ministry called Team Effort, they do mainly construction ministry in different locations all over the country. We primarily worked on the new chapel and dining facility for the Chanku Waste Kids Ranch but were also able to do some things in the community. We helped an elderly lady get running water for the first time in a long time and then through the graciousness of some of the group we were able to bless her with a water heater so that she could have hot water for the first time in many years as well. We were able to bulid a wheel chair ramp for someone who has just been put in a wheelchair. Things like this are not uncommon at all. I have received a list of several people in this area that do not have running water much less hot water, my hope is to be able to steadily work on that so that each one of these elders can have running water in their home over the next few months.
Friday nights is our teen night at the church. It has been so amazing to see how they have began trusting us and confiding in us. We started our studies out two months ago with "How much are you worth" I feel that many of the young people here, as well as the adults, have placed a very low value on themselves, when we know that God paid an amazing lop sided amount for us so that we can be with Him. we are worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I think that it really stirred some interest among them and each week we have grown with newcomers.  I am looking forward to seeing what God is going to do in their lives as they continue to give their lives over to Him and as He frees them from so many lies that have been told in this place.
We have been helping with the Kids camp as well. Jacob is loving it because he is at camp everyday and partaking in all of the activities, people are always coming up to us telling of how wonderful he is and has a sweet spirit and is always the first to volunteer to pray, I am so thankful for this and am very proud of him as he learns so many new skills and is challenged in new ways.
It is such a blessing to see how things work out. I honestly don't know how things are going to happen sometimes but they do. My dad has always said that "whatever God orders, He pays for" that is so very true, we have seen God answer so many prayers and even some that we didn't know was a need yet. the camp is able to run the bus in every direction everyday (And nothing is close here) as well as feed every child that comes through a breakfast bar as well as lunch everyday, I look at this and say I don't know how you do it, and then I am told by Mike and Monica "we don't". They have so many testimonies of how God has provided for them over the last 20 years and it is amazing. God is so good.

After being here for 3 months Amanda and I have been praying about what the Lord wants us to do for the next season of our lives. We have been answered and wanted to tell you that we know that God wants us to come here full time. We plan to leave here in the middle of September to head back south and hopefully be able to stop in with some of you along the way and visit with your church if you would like us to. we will spend the months over the holiday doing whatever the Lord leads in raising support. Possibly going down through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas sometime in October and November. I have been blessed with an opportunity to go to the Northwest territory, Yukon area in February with a dear friend of mine that has planted a few churches up there. This will be a difficult trip to make. it has to be made in the winter months so that you can drive on the ice roads to get there. Please pray for us concerning this, I am very much looking forward to this as well as a little unsure, when you start talking about -50 f I am at a loss and really cant comprehend that. but there are about 47,000 native Americans that live in that region and are mostly forgotten about a lot of the time.  
Once I get home from that trip our plan will be to head back here to Pineridge sometime the first of March hopefully visiting in some of your churches again.
I know this might be a lot for some of you, but know that this is where the Lord is leading us and we value you and your support in any way. You having a bible study in your home has no affect on these people here, but you praying in your home for these people has more of an impact than you could probably imagine. There is power in prayer and we covet you praying for us as God leads us into a new place.

He who Sustains.

Thank you Jesus for another productive, patience - producing, God sustaining week!  It has been a while since we've updated you, and I'm so grateful you are still following our blog. We have had such a great time! For Matt and Jacob it has almost be 3 months in this beautiful place, and almost 2 months already for us girls.  For us, it has flown by!  We are growing everyday more and more in love with the Natives. Has it been challenging? Absolutely.  We have had our eyes opened to so many things here, things at home that we wouldn't experience.  Our eyes of ministry have been expanded. We strive everyday to see through the eyes of Christ, not through ours which at times turn judgemental or frustrated. Great things are happening, and God is truly blessing this ministry.  We have fallen in love with the natives and so appreciate their open arms to let us in to be part of their lives.

For Chanku Waste' Ranch, the kids camp put on by Pastor Mike and Monica's ministry is doing amazing things! Every week we get a few new faces in, and Jacob is learning so much too! He enjoys going every day, playing with his friends, doing crafts, and running til he's completely worn out, which seems to make bedtime around here a little bit easier. 

We are in our 4th week of TEAMeffort Mission teams, and boy have we been crazy busy.  Matt's brother and sister, Nathan and Laura, have been here for 5 weeks, and sadly we are taking them to the airport to head home tomorrow. I asked Laura to head back a share that we truly have had an unforgiving schedule, so everyone knows we aren't just ignoring everyone back home. This is also a reason this is the most recent post in a few weeks.  We have had fantastic groups and some challenging ones. Matt is running the work sites like a boss and we are making so much progress on the facility for the Ranch. I am making sure the budget and administration side is in tip top shape, as well as keeping up my work on my own company, JNL Bookkeeping Services.  I try to help on the job site a few days but that isn't always the way it happens. Leah enjoys going to the camp and the work sites but by 12 she is asking for a nap, and with our schedule we defiantly try to accommodate.

A glimpse into our schedule, We are up at the sites by 9, and we break for the day by 3pm Monday - wed.  On Thursday we have a half day, and Friday is a free day for the campers. Sunday - Thursday night we have dinner and Chapel starting at 6 and hopefully get home by 9:30.  On Friday, we try to catch up on our tornado of a house and if we are lucky we get a few clean clothes put in the closet.  Saturday, our groups check out and we head to Rapid City for supplies, groceries, and meal out with our staff.  Sunday morning we have Church, have lunch, and prepare for the next group coming in at 5.  Phew....what a week!  We are finishing out this week, then next week will be our last week and we will continue our ministry with Chanku Waste' and the local Church. Working with TEAMeffort has been such a blessing!  The Lord is using the teams that come in to really take charge of the facility progress. Over the past few weeks we have completed 2 bathroom facilities, both Mens' and women' complete with showers as well for the groups that come into work at the camp; finished out a FEMA trailer that we have filled with bunks and closet space; built 2 decks for the bunk trailer;completely framed up the large facility: got the trusses up, and this week we are working on the decking to prepare for the roof. We are making so much progress for their ministry and really looking forward to this part of Pastor Mikes vision for the reservation coming into fruition.  To God be the Glory!

We named the Bus "debbie" in honor of Jake's mom, one of our amazing TE Chaperone's that came from Wisconsin.  He lost his mom the week he was serving with us.  We are honored to forever have her name on our Camp bus!

Nathan working OH SO HARD!!  We are going to greatly miss Nathan and Laura, we wouldn't have survived the last few weeks without them. Sad to see them go :(

Some have asked how we are in our Support.  There is always a need, because all that we have coming in is pouring straight into the ministry here.  We are still taking support through our church Harvest Park Baptist Church (memo: South Dakota Mission).  If you need more information on this, you can email us at athadden@gmail.com.  Thank you for your continued support, and your prayers.

A few prayer needs:
- Please Pray that the Lord prepares our hearts for what is to come in October.  We have had a few opportunities but know in someway we will be connected to this reservation. Pray that we are obedient and at peace wherever He entrusts us to.
- Pray for continued protection for our family.  We live across the street from a community that Satan has a enormous pull.  Our home has been surrounded by an Army of Angels, and don't hear or see anything that goes on until after the fact. Nothing that Satan has even comes close to our house and we know that we are so protected by the mighty Hand of God.  Rejoice in this with us.
- Pray that God will continue to give us wisdom on how to love and reach the Natives. It is a battleground and pray that we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit and His leadings.
- Pray for our growth.  As we seek in all areas, as we grow in ministry, as we see through the eyes of Jesus, as we lay our desires down and take up His, as we fall more in love with our family and each other, as we study the word, pray that we are soaking in everything God has for us. 

We want nothing more that the best the God has.  We want to live a life of obedience, and we want to be a shining testimony of Gods faithfulness and Glory!  He has blessed us with more than we can imagine and He continues to give His best. Thank you so much for your prayers, as Christians, we make our prayers weak and think they don't make a difference. But prayers shake the walls of this world, break chains, destroys boundaries, and open the flood gates of Heaven. Prayer is power and we need them! This reservation needs them, Pastor Mike and Monica need them, our nation needs them. 

We love you all so much and So appreciate your support in all areas. The title of this post is "He who Sustains....", because He has never failed to do so over the past few months.  He has been our rock, our energy, and our drive. He is faithful to sustain, and we are so grateful for that.

Lets Ride into the Sunset...

What an eventful week this has been! I know I say this every time I post but thank you for being patient with us. I know you are waiting on updates and we are trying to find the time to get them  to you regularly. Hopefully, after this week we can get on somewhat of a schedule. Last Sunday night, we were packing away and spending time with family and friends. A special thanks to Kathryn, Daniel, and Liam for staying up late with me, and to one of my besties, Nicole, for having one last sleepover with me (for a few months anyway). We were checking flights and they looked anything but promising.  So, after talking about it for weeks, anticipating the chance to see Jacob and Matt, and the emotions of saying goodbyes to everyone had me on the edge of a healthy breakdown. haha!! The thought of not making it out on Monday got to me.  After a sob fest and pity party, I decided to try a little later flight and try my odds. It was all the emotions of the stage of our adventure. We have been apart for 3 and a half weeks, the exhausting task of packing for a 6 month trip, and the emotional toll of bringing a few family and friends to tears with us heading West. It was wearing on me.

 We got to the airport after an emotional goodbye with my Grandparents and Nicole. Ugh.  It's never a good feeling.   We got the the airport with all our 7...yes 7 bags, unloaded and the Lords favor was on us from that point on. Small things, we were able to check the bags at the curb, which they dont do for standby passengers, and we were escorted to a 'behind the scenes' attendant that gave my parents gate passes to help me get through.  Which is almost unheard of.  They helped me through security and we were able to spend that much more time together. I cried at every opportunity that day I think!! And I'm unashamed! lol! I cried when I missed the first flight, I cried when I was told I'd probably get on the next one, I cried at the thought of having to head home. Long story, hopefully shorter, We decided to head to Memphis, then to Minneapolis, THEN to Rapid City, and hope I made all my connecting flights. I didn't think I got on the flight to Memphis, so I went up and said "is there anyway we are getting on? If not, we will head home and try again tomorrow." "You got on!" And then came the tears. Wow...I sound like a crazy person, but this was my flight out of Atlanta, if I got stuck in Memphis, it didn't matter. I was on my way to Matt and Jacob. I walked back to our seats where my parents had Leah and I just sobbed.  My mom put her sunglasses on so she could cry and not worry about it.  That was tough.  It's a short time to be gone, I understand. But we are embarking on new territory, leaving what's comfortable, leaving our support, and Trusting in Jesus like never before. Leaving my parents was the worst. We had the Gate attendants in tears, and the flight attendants once I got on the flight. Leah didn't understand and fought leaving Noni, which was so hard on me. She cried and we just had to pull her away. This has been tough on her, she doesn't understand quite what is going on.

 Don't get me wrong, it was joy and excitement as well, but that's the only thing I had the energy to do. After that, we were well on our way.  We made every flight and made it to South Dakota for our wonderfully perfect reunion.  I am so thankful that we don't have to be apart like this often. My military friends and family, I have so much respect for you and I'm grateful to not be in your position.  You are strong women!! Truthfully, this was a journey Matt and I started months and months ago, there was an urgency in our hearts to be there, as a family.  So I was ready, but it was very bittersweet!  And I'm sure we will have family and friends visit before we come home in Oct but the unknown is always an uneasy place to be. Praise Jesus He is the calm in the storm and our sustainer!

Ok, bear with me...almost time to wrap this up! We got to Rapid, and joined our handsome men, enjoyed a nice dinner, got to see Pastor Mike and Monica, and headed to our new home. Matt had made it sound rough, so I didn't have any expectations.  He didn't share with me that a ministry a few hours away had come and painted our house, helped decorate, and deep cleaned so all would be perfect when I got here.  Which was one of the sweetest things! I told Matt if I had any more tears to cry I would have cried when I walked in! haha!! The house is perfect for us, it's not in excellent condition but it has everything we need. I'm so thankful, God did this. He provided this home for us, which He knew was important to me. He cared and listened for the minor details, and once again poured His blessings out on us. On Tuesday we opened camp for the summer, so it's full swing ahead. We have about 70 kids a day and we are growing. We feed them, sing with them, teach them Gods word, play with them, and for Jacob and Leah it's a playdate everyday with tons of kids. They have made themselves known and Jacob is known as the football player...Leah is known for simply being adorable at anything she says or does. Blessing #5289451645641....Our children are flourishing!!  Another blessing, we get to work with Daddy everyday.  He is never far away and we have the fun of playing with him alot. We are so humbled friends.  We can't express the thankfulness we have in our hearts. God is so faithful and He is doing an amazing work here through this ministry. We miss our family and friends, but God has truly covered us in Peace and we pray that for our family back home as well.  Jesus wants to be evident in our lives.  He wants to be known.  The little things we do everyday make a difference and we want to strive to be Jesus everyday to these children.  Please pray for us, we do need that more than anything. You have all been so wonderful and we look forward to chatting with you more about the work here.

On the Road again.

What an amazing journey this has been so far. Not even being in South Dakota yet but just the planning, praying, seeking, packing, and rejoicing has taken us through an amazing adventure.  Matt, Jacob, and our cousin Kam, who happens to be an amazing videographer, left out on Thursday morning about 4 am Georgia time.  With the trailer, a 5 year old, and a dog, they made a few stops!

We are so richly blessed.  God has provided every single need for us this far and we know he will continue to do so.  The weeks leading up to us leaving were really encouraging.  A lot of time with family and friends and making some God appointed connections.  As of now, they are staying not far from our soon to be home for the next 6 months, and will be moving in soon.  This blog was started with the purpose of keeping you updated on our ministry and everyday lives.  So you can expect the pictures and posts will keep coming! OH OH!!! Pick ME!!

Man! This weekend was just fabulous!  Saturday, we were actually all home and were able to do nothing...I mean nothing. I did nothing...like nap, watch tv, play.  Nothing productive at all and it felt awesome!  On Sunday, we went to church, then was treated to a  nice lunch at La Parilla by Andys Family.  Andy is going with us to South Dakota until the Lord leads otherwise.  We had our mission night last night and we were honored to have Pastor Mike Brennan from Pine Ridge come and speak to our church and family members.  This is only the second time we have met him and we have definatly connected in an amazing way.  He is a Native himself and has incredible insight on how to reach his people. 

The phrase of the night "it will be hard..." Comforting right? haha! In reality, the Lakota People are one of the hardest people group in the United States to reach.  And Satan has a huge foothold their and he will attack when people come in bringing the gospel.  Pine Ridge is the most poverty stricked region in the United States.  It is filled with people who are hurting, and crying out for truth.  If we can help, if only for a few months, what a huge calling.  We were so encouraged in having him here, and also having Mitch from TeamEffort come down as well.  We will be working with their ministry for 7 weeks as Camp Directors for their youth camps. And the other 3-4 months we will be working along side the local ministry and supporting the Kids Summer day camp.

Some people have asked if Domestic Missions is different than Foreign Missions in the aspect of raising support.  And in some ways it is, some people think we are just moving and getting jobs in South Dakota.  Basically just relocating.  But in reality, we are leaving our home, our jobs, and our ministry and working full time serving the Lakota People.  We are going fully dependant and trusting in the Lord. That's a very humble place to be.  This part is not the most fun, but it's the business side of the ministry.  If you will, pray and trust the Lord to move in your heart to see in what way you can partner up with us.  We are trusting God for our full financial support but we are also trusting that He is raising up Prayer Warriors on our behalf.  All support is through our church and is tax deductible to you. 

I will include the news email that we sent out yesterday, please continue to pray for our ministry as well as our preperation.  You are all so special to us and we wouldnt be in the position we are today without all of you!! Love you!!!

Hello everyone,
We wanted to give you all an update on what the Lord is doing with us.
First thing - if you are free tonight at 7, pastor Two Shadows (Mike Brennan) of the pine ridge Indian reservation will be with us at our church tonight. Pastor Mike is a missionary on the reservation and who we will be working with in SD. I know you will be blessed to hear him tonight if anyone would like to come.
We are still trusting the Lord and ask you to pray with us about our living arrangements there. We are still praying about an RV, either purchasing one if the funds are there or borrow one if someone would allow us to use theirs for the summer.
We are still short of the funds needed to live there for the time we have made a goal of, but are still very much trusting that God has it taken care of.
As of right now Matt is leaving may 3rd to start the 24 hr drive, and Amanda, jacob and Leah will be flying up the end of may to meet up. That is only a few weeks away and it seems like time is going by very fast.

Matt is flying up April 3rd and coming back the 7th, mainly to canvas the area and get some last things settled before making the drive, and to meet with some of the people we will be working with in the coming months.
We are having a carwash on April 21st to help raise some funds.

Your way.

So I'm guessing an update is in order! Thank you for being patient with me.  We are at a place where we are starting to plan the BIG fundraisers and really getting our sponsorship in order. We are looking into a wonderful RV that would fit our needs and trusting the Lord to work in this situation.  Defiantly praying ALOT.  The Lord had brought to my attention the things that I haven't brought before Him. And to be honest I was surprised myself at how much "planning" I have done on my own. Now WHY on earth would I go and do that??!!! Well because sometimes I think without thinking if that makes sense.  I should allow the God of the Universe to gracefully and perfectly appoint everything about our time there, but I let myself get in the way.  I say it's "OK" to worry...I'm a mom and its my job to plan and do, but I have been given a more important role in this adventure. That is to TRUST and pray, and be obedient!  To let go of every expectation and expect God to work things out for His glory, in whatever way He seems fit.  Some say that's hard, and if you asked me a few days ago I would have agreed. But in this whole experience, God has allowed my little self shrink a little more everyday.  Did you know that when you totally release yourself, your plans, your family, your hopes, your visions, and completely trust in HIS plans, hopes, and visions, He will give you this overwhelming peace?  I'm not there yet,  but each day (and it may take years...ha!) I am getting a bit closer, and God is giving me a little more peace.  The peace of God is SO freeing!! If you haven't experienced it, I dare you to try it.  Ask for Peace in your finances! Yes...your bank account may be $0 but stand on the promise that HE provides all your needs according to HIS riches in Glory.  Ask for peace in your family! Peace in your marriage, your relationships, your work, your ministry.  Release your worry and your fear and take hold of the promises of God. Trust that He will do what He says He will do, and do not be moved by circumstance. 

I went to visit my parents church this past Sunday, and my sweet cousin, Caitlin, sang a song that has defiantly rang true in my heart the last few days.

It will be my JOY to say...Your will, Your way, ALWAYS!

Some of my PAST worries, (Thank you Jesus!!) have been...."OK...so, we will be living, cooking, homeschooling, working, and playing in a RV with 2 kids, a dog, and probably a few extra visitors throughout our time there!!" Wait for it....wait for it....one....two.....three.....FREAK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Humph........Yes...even you might stress if you thought about that for a few hours.  So I started to pray that my Father would help me to find JOY in every moment.  While we are crammed and stuffed in the camper, let me find joy in the chaos and take a deep breathe in and enjoy this time with my children.  While I clean up every little thing, 35 times a day, just so it looks like we have a floor in such a small place, help me to find joy in letting the mess be a mess for a while.  Let me find JOY in letting my precious Savior direct our every moment.  And right now, I can't tell you how excited I am to be living in an RV for 6 months!! God has shown me the excitment and fun in doing something out of the norm, and how He is going to bless our time there!  It's not for everyone, but we are being faithful. It will be hard and right now there are a lot of unknowns but I commit in my heart to trust and to be obedient to His calling for our precious little family!

I challenge you to let go of the things you feel you can control. Let go and let God do His work in your life and in your situation.  And just when you think you have let go enough...let go a little more.  And a little more.

Gods peace is real and I know that I will experience that a little more every day that I choose to let Him work.

Hello Everyone,

I hope this letter finds you all well.
I wanted to update everyone as to what God is doing with us as a family in our journey toward Pine Ridge.
All of mine and Amanda's life we have seen God do things directly in our lives as well as the people around us. So it would seem that we wouldnt have any problems just leaning back and trusting completely that God will provide just as He has promised, but for whatever reason, it is easy to forget how magnificently big our God is.
Many of the people we have talked to have expressed how hard it is to do short term mission trips to Pine Ridge, much less live there. For me that somewhat excites me even more to know that it will definately have to be a God thing for us to be there. I would also be lying to say that the thought of that didnt scare me a little. it is not always easy to be out of our comfort zones, so one thing we are going through right now is the process of learning how to lean on God for stability and provision.
I had said before that a vision needs cultivating. God does not always share with us an entire vision of what He is wanting to do in our lives, for us it was "I want you to go!" the rest will come as you begin to take steps of obedience. We are excited to find out new things about what we will be doing there as it comes to us. One thing is for sure, there is plenty of things that God is opening up for us while we are there. Our months there have already been filled up. Primarily God has led us to come alongside the body of believers that are already there and support them in their growth and serve the pastor there with helping him carry out the vision God has given him for his people. Part of that vision is to have a kids day camp through the summer where children from all points of the reservation can come and learn the Gospel of Jesus Christ within their own culture and learn that the love of God is not limited to any certain color of skin or race. It sounds far reached that there are people groups within our own country that have not had a clear presentation of the Gospel. Maybe in a few years or so I can send you a newsletter that speaks of something different, saying that there are no more people in the US that have not heard a clear gospel of Jesus.
If that is your desire, I want to encourage you to rise up and be obedient to what God has commanded each one of us to do, and you will see that the fields are plentiful and ready for the harvest.

We wanted to make our needs known to each one of you so that you would join us in praying for us, as we know the Lord will meet everyone of our needs to what he has called us to.
1.  We are still a long way short of our support - the cost of living is less on the reservation, however the fuel cost to do ministry there is a lot more. Fuel is a big portion of our support.
2.  A place to stay - yes that is right, we still arent sure where exaclty we are going to be staying! we are praying about an RV possibly if someone has one that is going to be sitting for the summer and would like for it to be used, we can help you with that. we are also open to finding a house, trailer, barn or tent to stay in on the reservation. i know that God already has that place reserved for us He just hasnt shared that with us yet, so pray that we would have patience and faith in trusting that has already been taken care of.
3.  Tires for trailer - we are taking an enclosed trailer that was given to us to carry my tools and such up there as we go to be able to do some construction projects while we are there and it needs tires and electric brakes on it to safely make the 24 hr trip in May.
4.  For Pastor Mike and Monica Brennan - he is the pastor of the church there and the people we will be working alongside
5.  For Amanda, Jacob, Leah and myself - that we would have the fruit of the Spirit, and that our faith would not waiver
